France is one of Shein's biggest European markets, and Colissimo's habit of collecting charges before release means French shoppers feel the 1 July 2026 change directly at the door. Shein's checkout handles VAT at 20% through IOSS; what is new is the flat €3 customs duty for each distinct HS6 tariff line the consignment contains.
Fashion baskets keep lines low when they stay on clothing — but Shein's cross-selling pushes jewellery and accessories into the cart, and mixing knitted garments, woven garments and jewellery already makes three tariff lines. Knitted and woven count separately under the HS system, a nuance almost no press coverage mentions.

Worked example
A €8.75 knitted top, a €14.20 woven shirt and a €2.95 imitation-jewellery piece, shipped for €4.90: goods €25.90, shipping €4.90. Knitted, woven and jewellery are three separate HS6 headings, so this small basket carries 3 tariff lines — 3 × €3 = €9 of duty. The €6.16 of VAT at 20% was paid at checkout.
Colissimo asks for €9–€17 before handing the parcel over (duty plus possible €0–€8 handling), so the outfit really costs €45.96–€53.96 at the door.
